The Pros and Cons of Online Learning

Online learning has most definitely increased in popularity but there are questions as to whether or not it works. Below are a few pros and cons of online learning:

Pros:

It’s Flexible

With an online course, you choose when you want to learn. You won’t need to be online at a certain time for a lecture, you can watch the lecture and read the material when it suits you and your schedule.

24 Hour Access 7 Days a Week

You can access your online course material at any time, any day of the week. This makes it easy for you to catch up with work on the weekends if your week is a little too busy.

You Can Work at Your Own Pace

The material is online and it allows you to work at your own pace and revise a lecture video as many times as you’d like if you aren’t understanding a section.

There are Options

There are multiple courses offered online and so this gives you a vast amount of choices as to what you can study.

No Travelling Necessary

What’s convenient about online learning is that you don’t have the extra expense of travelling costs to take you to a venue. Online learning is, quite literally, right at your fingertips.

Cons:

You Need to Be Disciplined

You need to be the kind of person who doesn’t wait for someone to tell you what you need to do, you just do it! In your online courses, you’ll have to check your class portal regularly, do all required readings and assignments and meet all your deadlines.

There is Minimal Social Interaction

For some students, the lack of social interaction can lead to feelings of isolation. For many students, not having enough interaction with professors and peers is among the biggest challenges of studying online and passing their courses.

Response Time May Be Slow

Though you can speak to lecturers online, they may not be quick to respond. Often, you’ll have to wait for a response, especially if you are sending messages over the weekend.
