The challenges of time management whilst working from home.

Working from home has undoubtedly become the norm for most of us. Yet for some this proves to be more than a challenge because we are not used to implementing this type of time management at home. What factors contribute to striking the balance and making working from home a success?

1.Focus

You might think that because you are at home you can achieve two things in one action. Being at home poses this challenge as you are more aware of what you need to do at home and not completely focused on your work. It seems that there isn’t real harm in thinking this way but the truth is it divides our focus between two pivotal spheres of our lives. The solution therefore is focusing on work when you have allocated yourself time to work.

Don’t alternate between the two during the day as you end up stealing time from work or home and end up not giving quality time to either of them. Spend your worktime doing work. This can be a tall order as work is at home but with a little focus balance can be achieved.

2.Boundaries

This is one of the biggest challenges when working from home. The truth is that we need to bring our home team on board with our personal new normal. When we allocate work time to ourselves, the rest of your home team is affected. Bring your team on board with your schedule and avoid tension when boundaries are crossed.

3.Knowing yourself

Determine what time of the day you are more alert and take advantage of it. Also consult with your home team to bring about smooth sailing for your work time. If you usually take regular breaks at work, do the same at home. Remember not to do personal tasks in your breaktime – Focus and Boundaries are important.

These are a few principles we can implement to make our worktime, at home, a success. We will be sharing more helpful tips on working from home next time.
